Week three: 13 days left on the novel

It's hard to believe that I might pull this off.

I am more focused this week and at least completing the minimum words per day.  Last week's deficit is still hanging over my head but I am reducing it daily (today by a whole 400 words)

One day left until the bathroom is completed.  This was not the first home improvement project and won't be the last - Next week it's on to the Family Room.

Another project that was completed last month was the fence.  Emergency patches had been previously done to keep my dog in.....

This was in desperate need of repair.

The new fence - well, what can I say

Getting past the curse

They say that the second week of National Novel Writing Month comes with a curse.  Not that I believe in curses but the second week left me trying to make a decision about throwing in the towel.

I've mentioned before that my house is under reconstruction.  With the outside projects done for the winter (and there were plenty), we have moved inside.  Over the last few weeks I've had one bathroom gutted and remodeled. I absolutely love it but it was not without chaos.

Last week was also busy at work, some late nights & early morning meetings and needless to say, my novel suffered. Here we are at the 1/2 way point and I am not half way.

Yesterday, I spent the day with my parents who were celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary. We took a casino bus trip.  I am happy to report that I brought my lap top and did some serious catch up on the bus. I also came back with most of my money - it was pretty good day.

Today I took the day off and had intended to spend it gathering speed on my novel. Instead, my sister arrived and I spent the day with her - shopping (12 hours worth). By the time I sat down to write it was 11PM.

Totally exhausted, I managed to at least get over the 10,000 word mark.  I'm still trailing but throw in the towel - never!

Two days 3,336 words down - 28 days & 46,664 words to go

Today was a little tougher - after working all day, I voted and then had dinner with a friend. By the time I got home it was already late.

Even though the words seemed to flow easier I was distracted by the election results.  Somehow I managed to pull it off.

With two extra words in today's count, tomorrow I can go lite!

Slow and Steady does not always win the race

Steady, yes - slow, no - not when it comes to Nano month.  - Kate 1,667 - 48,333 to go...................

It was the first day of the assignment, and I managed to get the day off -Yeah.  Having written a couple of introductory paragraphs at the stroke of midnight last night, I woke up today ready to go. I whipped out about 400 words and got ready to attend one of the kick off's and a write in.  There were so many events happening today and it was hard to choose but selected the event in Clifton Park. I was accompanied by my friend Rosanne, also a new member of Nano

When I hit 1,000 words I was cheering and then the woman sitting next to me announced that she had just rounded the corner at 3,000 words and her goal for the first day is usually 5,000. I had made my goal the 1,667 that if completed daily will glide you into 50,000.

When we left the write in I was still about 400 words short for the day - I looked at my friend Rosanne in the car and said "Did you already hit 1,667?". Trying to conceal her victory grin she looked at me admitted to 2,000 words.  Well, it's true, Rosanne was one of my classmates who sat in the favored "Smart Row" by the window in Sr. Anita's class and I was once again feeling just average.

I dropped off Rosanne and attempted a 5 minute stopover at my sisters house.  Two hours later, I was on my way home.  I changed for Yoga so I could refresh my mind and when I returned I sat down and worked on my novel.

When I finished everything I wanted to say for today, I looked down and the word count had just hit 1,667 -and not one word more.  Steady & right on target.

NaNoWriMo

In approximately 24 hours, it will be officially NaNoWriMo which stands for National Novel Writing Month. The challenge: start and complete a 50,000 word novel during the month of November.   If I had the month off, I might not find this so offensive, but I have a full time job (and then some) I am also in the middle of having my house remodeled.

Life is crazy, so I figured, what the heck!

Fortunately I have a good friend that I was recently re-acquainted with who as it turns out is as passionate about this as I am.  It's always amazing how that happens.   Another stroke of luck: as I was cleaning out old books (for the remodeling project) I came across a plot that I had outlined a couple of years back but never worked on.

So just like that God sent me a writing buddy and a plot - how can I not take this challenge?
